All Elders Aren't Bad
by sammielee24 ini've read posts from time to time where it is obvious that people have been treated badly by either a jc or by individual elder themselves while in the society.
i can honestly say that in all my years as an elder, i have never seen this side.
most elders that i have known are committed, honest and fair minded men, who believe in what they are doing and have complete and utter faith in the organization.

We're all hypocrites!
by free2beme ini firmly believe that if you talk to someone long enough and know someone long enough, you will learn they are a hypocrite.
i don't think anyone can remain on one theme in their life forever and stick with it, as life is just to much about change to allow this and the human experience is about learning and changing.
when i see people quote others and yell the inevitable "hypocrite" comment in their direction.

but anyways, what is the point of re-thinking our thinking, if we're all hypocrites anyways? if we're all hypocrites, then just keep thinking what you're already thinking! which is ALSO a form of re-thinking.
You're being sloppy tonight, Tetra. ;-) This is a false dichotomy akin to saying "If we all stink at times anyway, why take a bath?"
I think the point is--and I happen to agree with it--that we shouldn't use the term "hypocrite" as an insult. To do so would be hypocritical. [knug knug knug] We are all hypocrites, some more knowingly than others. Our goal, however, shoud not be to deny our own hypocrisy, but rather we should look for it and be willing to change when we see contradictions in evidence. Seeking out our own hypocrisy should be more important than looking for others'. Would you not agree?

I agree sammielee. Unfortunately, many on this site want to see themselves as victims of life, and elders, as being former authority figures for them, are an easy place to place blame. To hear some tell their stories, you would think elders are Satan's minions and ex-jw's are persecuted heros saving the world. (I'm speaking of some, not all) Animosity inevitably and irrevocably breeds inaccuracy and contempt. Ironically, many here would sustain much higher levels of credibility if they weren't so venemous and judgmental.

Police caution woman for breastfeeding in public!
by nicolaou ini just watched the local bbc news and there was a story about a woman who'd fed her baby while sitting on a public bench.
she finished and was on her way when a police car drew up beside her and asked her to stop.
there had been a complaint.

Billygoat, you have a point. I don't think much of the people who make a verbal issue of complaining, but I also think common decency should make us be aware of other's sensitivities, whether we agree with them or not. So, yes, I don't think it's very nice for a woman to act as you say, but I don't think they should go to great lengths to hide it either. If both sides would be a little more considerate this entire issue would not exist. Basically, a person has no right to complain or get offended by public breast feeding, but a woman openly flaunting her breasts, no matter how stupid or irrational the taboo is, isn't a very nice person either.

Look, here in America the last thing anyone wants to see in public is a naked breast, just ask Janet Jackson. Call it sexist, call it prudish, whatever, its the way it is. We're a wacky country, but you gotta love us. Or you can be the next country we invade, its up to you.
No one was saying that is not the way it is, but just becuase we do something does not make it right, which has been the point of the entire thread. If you are that upset from seeing a breast, you have problems much deeper than being an American. If my wife were breatfeeding, you wouldn't have to worry about seeing her breast because I'd be knocking the shit out of you if you did. [i can be silly as well]

Does Evolution Tell Us to Take More Vitamin C?
by metatron inhere's one for you evolution/creation enthusiasts: vitamin c. most animals don't need vitamin c because they have the ability to make it in their livers.
however, guinea pigs , chimps, gorillas, and .

That's a false analogy. Restrooms are used for sanitary, odor, and health reasons. Eating is publicly accepted, and it is of no detriment to the public. Why should babies have to be hidden while they eat? Are you that afraid of seeing a baby while eating? Sheesh!

Showing thanks for the devilish things of Satan's wicked system? Heathens!! You're to condemn all of humanity and any kind of celebration, especially those about being thankful!
